Justified in Faith!

Hello, dear friend

Well, I’m back at it again with Romans 1:17. This week I want to explore the word “just.”

For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.” (Romans 1:17, NKJV)

Since Paul quoted Habakkuk 2:4 in his letter to the church in Rome, let’s look at the original Hebrew for some insights: make right, cleanse, cleanse self, be just, do justice, justify self, be righteous. Notice how most of the phrases refer to actions on the part of the individual:

I make things right.
I cleanse myself.
I do justice.
I justify myself.
I make myself righteous.

What lofty, noble goals! The problem? We can’t accomplish any of them. In fact, not a single person can check off a single one of them. Except one. Jesus. He is the only one. And then miracle of miracles, because of God’s great love for us, he makes us right. He cleanses us. He makes us just. He causes us to do justice. He justifies us. He causes us to be his righteousness in Christ Jesus. He does all of it so we can live by the kingdom principle of faith and breathe in the very air of heaven.

What a glorious, magnificent gift he has given us—making us just so we can live by faith! I plan on celebrating this wondrous truth, and I hope you join me.

We are already "righteous" because our sins (all) have been put on Jesus, and because of Union Life with Him, we are dead to self and alive to Christ. For years, I tried to fix myself, but the old man was buried with Him and resurrected with Him at Calvary-a new creation man! So the same Spirit
