Monday's Message of Hope

Hello dear friend,
As I sat down to write this week’s Monday’s Message of Hope, a song rose up inside me. I only remembered the beginning words, “The Lord reigneth, let all the peoples tremble.” I knew that line came from scripture, so I looked it up and found it is the beginning of Psalm 99. The entire psalm contains only nine verses, glorifying and exalting the Lord. But one line in verse 8 captured my attention:
You were to them God-Who-Forgives
Now most of us are familiar with the covenant names of God:
These names contain incredible promises from our wonderful Lord. I have prayed countless prayers invoking these powerful covenant names and seen God move on my behalf on numerous occasions. However, as many times as I have read the psalms, I missed this one—The God Who Forgives, El Nasa in the original Hebrew. A covenant name given to the Israelites before the cross. What a glorious gift of freedom Almighty God gave to his chosen people and a divine glimpse into what lay ahead for those of us who are now “in Christ” through the sacrifice of Jesus.
Today, if you’re struggling with a sin issue, as most of us are, we have the cross of Christ, the blood of Jesus, and a covenant promise from the God Who Forgives! A name I intend to meditate on this week. I hope you join me.
