Nehemiah's Prayer!

Hello, dear friend

Thinking about this week’s message led me to Nehemiah’s prayer of generational repentance. Years ago the Lord gave me very practical yet powerful insights into his prayer, and I want to share them with you.

5 And I said: “I pray, Lord God of heaven, O great and awesome God, You who keep Your covenant and mercy with those who love You and observe Your commandments,

In this verse you want to spend time praising and thanking God for who He is. Be sure to include any promises in His word or that He spoke to you concerning the situation.

6 please let Your ear be attentive and Your eyes open, that You may hear the prayer of Your servant which I pray before You now, day and night, for the children of Israel Your servants, and confess the sins of the children of Israel which we have sinned against You. Both my father’s house and I have sinned.

In this verse put yourself in the places it names as servant or servants. Personalize this section as much as possible. Include your generations on both sides of the bloodline as well as your spouse’s bloodlines if married. When it names the children of Israel, substitute the last names of the families you are praying for. In the last line where it says “. . . have sinned,” name the specific sin you are repenting for. For instance, sexual sin – name the specific sins such as fornication, adultery, whoredoms, homosexuality, etc. For financial sin – not giving tithes, throwing money away needlessly, idolatry, etc.

7 We have acted very corruptly against You, and have not kept the commandments, the statutes, nor the ordinances which You commanded Your servant Moses.

Name the specific scriptures you have violated and how you have acted corruptly. (verses 6 & 7 tend to flow together)

8 Remember, I pray, the word that You commanded Your servant Moses, saying, ‘If you are unfaithful, I will scatter you among the nations;

When he writes, . . . I will scatter you among the nations. . . , agree with God and say that your souls have been scattered and not made whole because of this sin, that you’ve been ensnared and enslaved because of your sin, and the enemy has taken you captive.

9 but if you return to Me, and keep My commandments and do them, though some of you were cast out to the farthest part of the heavens, yet I will gather them from there, and bring them to the place which I have chosen as a dwelling for My name.’

In this verse, declare that you and whoever you are praying for and your children will return to the Lord and keep His commandments and do them.

10 Now these are Your servants and Your people, whom You have redeemed by Your great power, and by Your strong hand.

Put yourself in here as God’s daughter, maidservant, son, servant and praise Him for having redeemed you. Only God can do this.

11 O Lord, I pray, please let Your ear be attentive to the prayer of Your servant, and to the prayer of Your servants who desire to fear Your name; and let Your servant prosper this day, I pray, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man.”

Ask God to hear your prayers because you desire to fear His name, ask that you would prosper in this prayer and that God would grant you mercy because you are the King’s daughter or son.
