Hello, dear friend

For this Monday’s Message of Hope, I wanted to do something a bit different. Wondering what would minister to you, I felt led to share a poem I wrote during a First Friday art and worship event at Billings House of Prayer (BHOP.) For those of you who don’t know, I am on staff at BHOP as a missionary intercessor. I do receive a housing stipend, and my official title is Administrative Assistant of Ministry Operations. Basically, I get paid to pray and worship every day. The absolute perfect job!!!!

During our First Friday event in early July, I felt led to write a poem. I call it “The Clash of Echoes.” While it’s fun to listen to echoes in the mountains or empty halls, the echoes of our pasts can be painful, even debilitating. Especially when we think no one hears and no one cares. Even God.

The Clash of the Echoes*

empty pain

never ending

questions spiral down

a bottomless pit

God, are you there?

Can you hear?

Do you care?

They echo and echo and echo.

God, are you there?

Can you hear?

Do you care?

They echo and echo and echo.

darkness overwhelms

sight disappears

questions swirl in

the yawning abyss

God, are you there?

Can you hear?

Do you care?

They echo and echo and echo.

God, are you there?

Can you hear?

Do you care?

They echo and echo and echo.

confusion reigns

chaos simmers

questions whirl in

the midnight vortex

God, are you there?

Can you hear?

Do you care?

They echo and echo and echo.

God, are you there?

Can you hear?

Do you care?

They echo and echo and echo.

strains of a chorus float

in the midst of the blackened chasm

Beloved, I am here.

The words echo and echo and echo.

piercing the dark with

flashes of light

Beloved, my ear is attentive to your every cry.

The words echo and echo and echo.

heaven’s brilliance disperses

the scourge of darkness

Beloved, I carry you next to my heart.

The words echo and echo and echo.

The depth of God’s love

fills my bottomless pit.

The breadth of Father’s love

covers my yawning abyss.

The length of Abba’s love

overtakes my midnight vortex.

The heights of my Bridegroom’s love

draws me out and up into majestic glory.

My union with Him complete,

his words cascading over me, cleansing and freeing.

Beloved, you have captured my heart.

The Lord God sure does give you words to describe words and pain people can't say. I pray it connects in their hearts and they see the light of God's redeeming love.

I am blessed to have the family God gave me - who said blessings at the table and prayers at night and reached out to those in need. So the echoes I hear and feel are the echoes God sent and still sends through my family to me---echoing forever in my heart!
