Monday's Message of Hope

Living According to the Spirit!

Hello, dear friend

Today we’re going to continue our journey, living and walking in the Spirit. Let’s look at a verse in Romans 8, one of my favorite chapters:

For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. (Romans 8:5, NKJV)

Here, Paul points out the clear contradiction between life in the flesh and life in the Spirit, and it takes place in our minds. So let’s do a little inventory. Do we focus our thoughts on carnal, worldly things or do we focus on the spiritual truths found in God’s word? Do we ponder on what responses will show up on our social media pages or do we meditate on the Word of God? Do we let our thoughts run amok or do we bring every thought captive to the obedience of Christ Jesus?

Yikes! I’m not sure I want to answer them out loud! Even though nearly two thousand years have passed since Paul penned these words to his fellow brethren, their struggles match our own. Yet we are not without hope. The dear, aged apostle spends the rest of the chapter exhorting his fellow brethren to live spiritually-minded which brings us the life and peace of God.

Something we can’t do on our own. Yet, we are not alone—we have the fullness of the Godhead, through Holy Spirit, living on the inside of us, exhorting, encouraging, correcting, directing. Everything we need to live and walk in the Spirit. What a beautiful, glorious gift!

This week, I’m going to endeavor to set my mind on the things of the Spirit as I live and walk in Him. I hope you join me.
