Monday's Message of Hope
|
Hello, my dear friend!
How often do we find ourselves waiting? Probably more than we like. And if we’re honest, none of us really like it. Whether it’s waiting for the pizza, the doctor, or the airplane, we want what we want—now. And we can be pretty irritated when we don’t get it.
This is not to diminish those situations where timing is crucial. However, some days seem to be an endless line of waiting, and we would not be wrong in having those thoughts. Studies show that we spend nearly sixty hours a year simply waiting at red lights. Sixty hours staring at a little red circle! I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a little demon sitting on top of the controls just keeping it red an extra thirty seconds, especially if I’m running late.
Yet, the Lord clearly places a high value on this trait since over thirty scriptures describe its benefits. If God Almighty considers it this important, we need to change the way we think about waiting. In other words, repent.
I’m sure you’re thinking, Excuse me. What does repent have to do with waiting? Simple. The word “repent” in the Greek literally means to think differently. Instead of seeing waiting as a curse, begin viewing it as an opportunity. How does that look in real life?
If you’re waiting for the light to change, count your blessings. Literally. If you’re standing in line at a checkout, pray for the employees and the business. Or engage the other customers and offer to pray for them. If you’re waiting for a ride, pray for construction workers. With all of the abuse hurled at them, they can certainly use some prayer support. If you’re waiting for someone else, start worshiping—even if it’s a joyful noise.
The list is virtually endless as we begin practicing the blessing of waiting. Below are some questions to reflect and/or journal. Feel free to share your thoughts—I would love to hear from you.
Have a hope-filled week as you practice waiting!
