Who's Behind the Benefits?

Hello, my dear friend!

It appears we have more to uncover about Psalm 68:19 this week. This time the Lord led me to focus on the who. Let’s dive in.

Blessed be the Lord, Who daily loads us with benefits, The God of our salvation! Selah (Psalm 68:19, NKJV)

Clearly, God loads us up with these daily benefits. Still, David, who wrote this particular psalm, could have chosen any number of titles for the One who pours out these amazing blessings. As a matter of fact, the various psalmists used dozens of names in reference to the Almighty throughout the one hundred fifty songs written in the book of Psalms. Yet, the shepherd boy turned king exclaims it is none other than the God of our salvation. Why?

Obviously, we know salvation means saved from death, hell, and the grave. However, the Hebrew language paints a picture that goes beyond one thousand words. Nine letters give a depth to our understanding that cannot be plumbed in this lifetime. Take a look at salvation’s original meaning:

  • aid
  • victory
  • prosperity
  • deliverance
  • saving health
  • help
  • salvation
  • welfare

Wow, just wow!  Everything we could possibly need on planet earth we find in the God of our salvation. No wonder David selected this title to tell us who is behind our daily benefits. Let this truth settle deep in your heart as you begin this week.
